Enable Infrastructure and Enable Design joined forces to tackle a critical challenge at Robertsbridge on behalf of our client, Network Rail, as part of our Kent and Sussex Track Ancillaries Framework. ๐ค๏ธโ๏ธ
๐๏ธ Preserving Vital Infrastructure: The embankment at Robertsbridge faced severe scouring and erosion, posing a significant risk to the track. Network Rail Kent and Sussex Works Delivery tasked us with this important project to safeguard the infrastructure.
๐๏ธ Specialized Expertise: Repairing this steep embankment required our team’s expertise and innovative solutions. We brought in a Spider-Digging plant, perfectly suited for the terrain, removed the scoured material, and built the embankment back to its original slope angle. New precast concrete headwall, flume units and erosion protection were installed to fortify the area.
๐ง Controlling Water Flow: The complexity of the project was met with precision. Three tributaries fed the existing culvert while a RENO Mattress was installed to regulate and slow water flow before it reached the brick culvert.
๐ A Journey of Collaboration: Commencing in March of this year, the project unfolded as a collaboration between Enable Design and Enable Infrastructure. Design works, led by Enable Design, were seamlessly executed on the ground by the Enable Infrastructure team alongside our subcontractor ProRail and supplier STATEBA.
๐ Up and Running: After months of dedication and effort, we can announce the successful completion of this venture on August 24th. The Robertsbridge embankment stands fortified and secure, ensuring the safety and reliability of the rail track for years to come.
๐ A Shared Commitment: We extend our appreciation to every member of the Enable team for their dedication to this project’s success. It’s through such collaborative efforts that we continue to push the boundaries of what’s achievable in the world of infrastructure.
James Charnock from Network Rail said: โThe works at Robertsbridge Embankment (delivered by Enable Infrastructure working with Crouch Waterfall) was a great example of how design assurance can create efficiencies to aid buildability. Having visited the works towards the end of the programme it was great seeing how Enableโs site team implemented these works safely and on time under a separate Safe System of Work. This allowed the railway to remain operational for our passengers while Enable removed the embankment stability risk at this critical location on our network.โ
Jonathan Nelson, Regional Manager for Enable said: โIโm very pleased at the successful collaboration and outcome of these works as part of our framework with Network Rail. Collaboration is one of our core values and the result of this project is a testament to that value in action working with Network Rail, our subcontractors ProRail, Crouch Waterfall and within the Enable Group โ demonstrating our Team of Teams ethos and skillsetโ.
